Sergei Bubka pivots between two limits, flexion and extension. Known as the best pole vaulter in the world, Sergei is attempting to constantly move through these two states through a number of scales. On a macro scale, as a pole vaulter, he must maintain a high level of built fitness (a fitness analogous to that of Randy Barnes, world record shot-putter) to help him explode through the vault. However, he must try and balance this with a leaner, endurance fitness (analogous to Abebe Bikila, the first athlete to win consecutive Olympic marathons, interestingly enough, the first one he ran barefoot) in order to be able to do repetitive jumps in competition.
On a micro scale, in the pole vaulting event, Sergei moves through flexion and extension from the repetitive flex/extend of the sprint down the track, to the explosive flex of the pole driving him up to pivot his extended body hopefully over the standards. Maybe he messes up a jump and knocks the standards over? Was his built fitness more like that of Eddi Ellwood, 5-time Mr. Universe? Was his endurance fitness more like that of Colin Jackson, anorexic Olympic hurdler?

Script:
The basis unit (Sergei Bubka) is formed through imputing a pivot level. This pivot level controls the amount of flexion and extension per side of the unit. Three levels of pivot are highlighted, p1, a fully extended unit creates an equal amount of flex and extension on both sides, p2, a 30 degree pivot creates a medium amount of flex on one side, and a medium amount of extension on the other side, p3, a 60 degree pivot creates a large amount of flex on one side, and a large amount of extension on the other side. For better health, it is recommended to move through p2 when attempting to transition from p1 to p3, or the other way around. Sergei Bubka can move through three highlighted fit levels: Napoleonic complex, an all around playa‚ and You mess with him and you mess with me too. An all around playa‚ can obtain all three pivot levels, while, Napoleonic complex can not be in a p1 state, and You mess with him and you mess with me too, struggles to be in a p3 state. Napoleonic complex, can, through achieving a pivot level 2, transform and become, An all around playa‚ You mess with him and you mess with me too, can also through achieving a pivot level 2, transform into, An all around playa‚ Again, for better health, it is not recommended for a Napoleonic complex, to transform directly into a, You mess with him and you mess with me too, or the other way around. Over the field there will be some imperfections, maybe a Sergei‚ Napoleonic complex, wants to immediately become a You mess with him and you mess with me too? What if Sergei falls and hurts himself? Although these moments could be considered unhealthy, it is not immediately deadly (although a whole field of this probably would be).

notes:
Sergei Bubka, World record holder in Pole Vaulting
Abebe Bikila, Ethipian Marathon runner, who set the world record running barefoot in 1960 Rome Olympics, and winner of 1964 Tokyo Olympic marathon
Randy Barnes World record holder in the shot put
Eddi Ellwood Mr. Universe 1997-2001
Colin Jackson - the former hurdler, has admitted that, at the peak of his track career, he was secretly starving himself leading up to the 1993 world championships, where he smashed the world record for the 110 metre hurdles to take the gold medal. At the time Jackson was surviving on just several hundred calories a day.
Sebastien Foucan, Founder of Parkour. Parkour is said to be l'art du déplacement, or the art of moving (from A to B), consisting of uninterrupted forward motion over, under, around and through obstacles (both man-made and natural) in one's environment.

second update...

<img style="display:block; However, my second test I prefer over the basswood folds, and as of now makes more sense conceptually for me. I rotated the piece(now it flexes in the same axis as the pivot, rather than flexing 90 degrees to the pivot, this has kind of been bothering me a bit) With this way I think the field has more control over the curve in flexion and extension, I set up a parameter for the length of the curved piece, (6" max, but i think depending on what side of the pivot piece it is on, flexion side or extension side, this can decrease 1") and then the center and edge widths change according to the pivot piece. Then the mediating pieces warp and change with the site, connecting the pieces laterally, (the picture only shows the main pivoting curve) I think this is a nice translation into basswood...

the last two pictures are of my first test...

recipe revision

Brad,

I think that it is nice that you have been following your own recipe while developing your basswood model. Your crystallograhy recipe is strong, and will support a field loaded with information. I think you should look up definitions of flexion, which you define as built, and extension, which you define as tone. It would be nice also if you explained how the thickness of material equates to a fit level. It's interesting that you chose the word metastasize, which is also used for the transfer of disease in the body, or the growth of tumors. I don't know if you intended to do that.

I still have a problem with healthy/unhealthy.

Your Sparring Partner,
Stan.

2-27 - operative terms

ex-ten-sion n.
1. When a pivot is either flexed or extended it can take on a level of healthy or unhealthy fitness. In flexion, the unit becomes more built, while the unhealthy fitness would be more analogous to 5-time Mr. Universe, Eddi Ellwood, compared to the healthy fitness of Randy Barnes, world record holder in the shot-put. In Extension, the unit becomes more toned, while an unhealthy fitness would be that of anorexic Olympic hurdler, Colin Jackson, while healthy fitness would be that of Parkour founder, Sebastien Foucan.

crystallography

ingredients: - foam core
2-ply museum board
bristol board

The basis unit is formed through an input of pivot level, which will derive a flexed unit or an extended unit. One can think of the pivoting level on a 1 to 10 scale, 1 being completely extended, and 10 being completely flexed. Different sections of the basis unit can metastasize into a thicker materiality, i.e. museum board or foam core, depending on the fit level of the flex or extend. Over the field there will be some imperfections. A vacancy occurs when units come together, but fail to bind, and only bind with the units surrounding the individual units. Because of the lattice structure, the field does not fall apart due to a vacancy. Interstitials throughout the site are areas of higher intensity‚ this usually occurs in the flexion units through the transition from a flexion to an extension, some units however occupy interstitials without such a high intensity. Edge dislocations happen in the lattice when a unit terminates, and the next unit must wrap around to compensate for the edge dislocation, this leads to a distortion in the system, if the unit is in flexion or extension the intensity of the distortion will be different.

Sergei Bubka World record holder in Pole Vaulting
Dick Fosbury high jumper who invented the “fosbury flop” the modern method of high jumping
Sebastien Foucan Founder of Parkour.

Parkour is said to be l'art du displacement, or the art of moving (from A to B), consisting of uninterrupted forward motion over, under, around and through obstacles (both man-made and natural) in one's environment.
